Colin Allen was born and raised on the west coast of Newfoundland, so he grew up enjoying the Mary Brown’s brand. No surprise then, that when a Mary Brown’s franchise opportunity came up in the Halifax area, Colin was excited to join the team.
Colin comes from a family of entrepreneurs. In fact, the Mary Brown’s opportunity started as a family strategy to expand into different areas of business – and became Colin’s passion.
Ten years later, Colin owns three Mary Brown’s locations and has two more in construction. He says, “I currently have a target of ten Mary Brown’s stores, but I’m sure that when I reach that, it will change to fifteen or more!”
Colin actively manages his Mary Brown’s stores, ensuring all facets of business operation exceed brand standards. Colin explains. “I take extra time to ensure our product is outstanding. Serving subpar product is never an option. Daily checks of inventory and ensuring procedures are being followed are key to keeping our standards high.”
Colin believes staff training is vital to providing exceptional service and superior product to Guests. He strives every day to create the welcoming, friendly environment that encourages Guests to come back time and time again.
Colin says that his biggest challenge is a staffing shortage – an issue that affects almost every retail business. He works hard to retain good employees – enabling him to produce superior product and provide exceptional Guest service.
Being involved in the communities where his stores are located is a priority for Colin. He believes in giving back and showing appreciation for the business Mary Brown’s receives. Colin’s three stores proudly support local charities, sports teams and fundraisers that help individuals and groups.
Colin summarizes, “I really enjoy being part of the Mary Brown’s family. There’s a great support system that you can rely on. Our support team is easily accessible and always quick to help solve any problems.”
