Empties for Angels is a charity operated by a radio DJ called Fitzy on NOW Radio 102.3 in Edmonton. The charity has been very successful in raising funds through the donation of bottles by local businesses and individuals. It’s a one-day drive with the goal of helping a family in need.
This was Fitzy’s fourth time running the event – and Mary Brown’s was very proud to participate!
This time, Empties for Angels supported 6-year old Declan, who is battling a rare form of adult leukemia called AML and his family. Declan’s father suffered a severe back injury about a year before Declan’s diagnosis and has been on medical leave ever since. It is a very difficult time for this family, emotionally and financially.
During April, all Mary Brown’s stores in Edmonton and area saved bottles collected in their stores. On top of that, they donated any money raised in their donation stands that month. On April 29th, collection day, we donated over 20 bags of bottles. Our grand total for April, combined bottle and cash donation, was $1,000!
Four of our Mary Brown’s locations wanted to do even more to help so they donated 30-Piece Party Packs to all of the hard-working volunteers on collection day! Our Stony Plain location fed all of the volunteers in their area, while Lewis Estates, Meadows and Millcreek locations fed all of the volunteers at the main donation location, the NOW radio station. Altogether, Mary Brown’s fed over 70 volunteers with our Chicken, Taters, Gravy and Salads. This is our fourth time being the official food provider for Empties for Angels volunteers!
Big thanks and congratulations to our Edmonton area Franchisees for their kindness and community spirit!
